Roughly, the first half of my life was spent in the show-me state of Missouri. After earning my teaching certificate and completing my BFA in ceramics in 1982, I moved to Dallas in 1985 and began a career in the advertising and graphic design field. Primarily working as an Art Director for the JCPenney Company, I also operated my own home-based design studio for some years. It was during this time that I began exploring art making again in my home studio. In the summer of 2001, when I was least expecting it and when my design company was doing extremely well, the Lord opened up a direct path for me to begin teaching art. I strongly resisted at first, but eventually took a teaching position at a private, Christian, college-preparatory school. My students range in age from 5th graders to 12th graders. I am fortunate to be able to work in a creative environment every day and it is my joy to be able to help children learn about their creative gifts. Although tentative at first, teaching has been a blessing. For me, the rewards are so much more valuable than what I gained from the advertising and graphic design field that I worked in for many years. Additionally, having at least eight weeks off in the summer has allowed me to work in a concentrated manner to produce series of work that relate to a specific theme.
